Comics & Life

Nope. I haven’t disappeared or abandoned this blog, but I have been super busy over the summer. I started taking the Graphic Novel Development Intensive course at SAW in June and took another semester of Carl Potts’ Comics Projects class at SVA. I’ve been hard at work on Words and Smiles with 22 pages at various stages of completion. I also met with an academic publisher and need to submit a book proposal to them with a sample chapter in a few weeks. On top of that, I’ve submitted a few strips to different publishers (an indie comics zine and an academic journal), but I haven’t heard anything back from those folks.

In July, I moved to Memphis. There are four comic shops here, so I’ve been digging through the .50 bins and finding treasures. I got runs of Badger, Concrete, Grendel, Grimjack, Nexus, and Scout, among many other treasures–a lot of books that I’ve been meaning to check out since I was a kid. Between the comics classes, reading comics, my academic research, and teaching starting up in late August, I have a lot to keep me occupied as the delta variant wreaks havoc on the Mid-South.

Some of the comics I picked up on Monday, Sept. 6

At some point in the not too distant future I’ll post another creator profile as folks seem to have enjoyed the one on Barry Blair. If you’re reading this, I hope you are doing well. Let me know if there’s someone who you think I should profile.
